Basingstoke Council will hold an event for landlords giving free advice

A FREE event aimed at helping Basingstoke and Deane residents looking to get on the property ladder is back.

The Low Cost Home Ownership event will be organized by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council at the municipal offices in London Road.

The event will take place on Wednesday, June 20 and will last from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Aspiring local homeowners will be able to drop by to get advice on various programs that will help them get on the property ladder.

Representatives from housing associations, independent financial advisers and building societies will also be on hand to answer any questions from attendees.

This will be the council’s eighth housing event and the first face-to-face event since September 2019 due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The event supports the council’s desire to provide a range of opportunities for residents of the borough to buy their own home.

This includes the council’s home loan scheme which helps first-time buyers buy new or existing homes up to £250,000 with loans of up to £30,000 or 20% of the property’s value.

Following the launch of the program, four first-time buyers have successfully purchased their own homes and other households currently on the market are looking to bid on their first property.

Cabinet Member for Homes and Regeneration, Cllr Samuel Carr, said: “Home ownership is at the heart of a strong society, but for too many people the price seems out of reach.

“I am passionate about helping local people, especially young people, find a place that belongs to them, and the council is committed to helping local residents achieve their aspirations.

“Given the range of options available, I know this can be confusing for first-time buyers.

“I am thrilled to launch our first in-person event on post-pandemic low-cost homeownership.

“This will be a great opportunity to find out more about the types of housing available on the market and the support available, including the council’s home loan scheme, first homes, purchase assistance and condominiums.
