ALAMOSE – Both Sanford High School basketball teams qualified for the Class 2A State Tournament, while the Sierra Grande Boys and Sangre de Cristo Girls qualified for the Class 1A Tournament.
Daughters of Sanford 50, Akron 26
The Lady Indians held a slim 8-3 advantage at the end of the first quarter, but opened the game in the second quarter to lead 30-13 at halftime. Sanford increased their lead to 43-19 after the third quarter. Both teams scored seven points in the fourth.

Sanford Boys 61, Holyoke 39
The Indians led 12-11 after the first quarter and increased their lead to 30-21 at halftime. Sanford had a 40-31 lead after the third quarter, and they edged the Dragons 21-8 in the fourth.
Cash Caldon led the Indians with 20 points, followed by McCray Larsen with 19.
Sierra Grande Boys 54, Kim/Branson 35
The Panthers led the Mustangs 22-15 after the first quarter, 33-25 at halftime and 39-27 after the third quarter. Sierra Grande beat Kim/Branson 15-8 in the fourth quarter.
Isiah Chairez led the Panthers in scoring with 23 points, followed by Thomas Archuleta with 12.
Sangre de Cristo Girls 45, Springfield 33

Dayspring Christian Academy 37, Sargent Girls 27
The Sargent High School women’s team also qualified for a regional final, but the Lady Farmers were beaten by Dayspring Christian Academy on Saturday in Greeley.

Cheyenne Wells 57, Girls Sierra Grande 23
The Sierra Grande girls also qualified for a Class 1A Region 3 tournament final in La Junta. However, the Lady Panthers lost to Cheyenne Wells 57-23.
The Lady Tigers led 11-2 after the first quarter. They extended their lead to 28-10 at halftime and 45-17 after the third quarter.
Leading the Panthers, Mariana Lyoa scored nine points.
Vanguard School 59, Centauri Girls 50
The Centauri High School women’s basketball team was defeated in a regional final as they fell to The Vanguard School 59-50 on Saturday in Colorado Springs.
The Lady Coursers took a 15-3 lead after the first quarter, but the Lady Falcons rallied nearly 30-24 at halftime.
Centauri continued their momentum in the second half and led 41-39 at the end of the third. However, Vanguard outscored the Lady Falcons 20-9 in the fourth.
